Anchorage member Shel Dummer is racing the Great Lakes Singlehanded Society Chicago-Port Huron-Chicago Super Mac and Back race SOLO, starting June 21. Most of us are amazed by Anchorage members John Hoskins, Todd Scott, and Shel, who have done exceptionally well in the solo Chicago Mac in the past several years. Now Shel racing the equivalent of FOUR of these races, solo, on his C&C 40 "Celerity"!! Here is some more information from Shel:

This year I will be racing SOLO in the Great Lakes Singlehanded Society Chicago-Port Huron-Chicago Super Mac and Back. The race is 1034 nautical or 1190 statute miles long and will take between 9 days at an average of 5 knots and 15 days at an average of 3 knots. Hopefully it is not slower.
There are six other boats that will be racing this race and other competitors in shorter races that will be a portion of the race I am doing. It seems funny talking about a SOLO race from Chicago to Mackinac Island as one of the shorter races. The link to the GLSS website is:

My wife, Sue, will be tracking me closely and is my Offshore Handler. I will be in contact to her by Satellite and Cell phone. If you want more info about my progress you can contact her.
I hope you enjoy watching the race progress.

I have some sad news to report; one of our members has relapsed! He
missed some of our "Sailors Anonymous" meetings this past winter and
now has entered in the "Super Mac and Back". Our motto is "you
cannot do it alone" but our own Sheldon Dummers (shel #2) is planning
to sail 4 Mac's back to back, SOLO!!! This man seriously needs our
help, maybe we could get a support group to witness his finish. GO
SHEL-REPRESENT!
SKIPPERS MEETING- (note crews are welcome and encouraged) Thurs.
May 22, 5pm. before the 1st. practice race at the harbor patio. Kevin
Novak (race chair) is out of town but I will be there to help with
the meeting and try to answer any questions.
A BIG HAND- is in order to John Hoskins who put on the "Rules
Seminar" with Alan Teske which was a fantastic success and the
donations collected almost covered the event. Now on a much more
serious note John who we thought to be in remission and who attended
the S.A. meetings has also relapsed! He is entered in the "Newport
to Bermuda" race. I called some friends in GLSS (Great Lakes Single
Handed Society) to organize an intervention but found out they are on
the same boat. GO JOHN-REPRESENT!
UK-HALSEY REGATTA- 6/7 & 6/8 sponsored by WYC is open to AYC and is
part of the northern "Boat Of The Year" series. Sheldon Wecker (Shel
