The Voyage of Satori

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you did not do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore, dream, discover..." -- Mark Twain

Many of you will remember Anchorage members Jane Adams and Sander Van Peski with Satori, the custom 56 foot schooner, moored along the wall at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center. For the past several years, they have lived an adventure most of us only dream about ... sailing around the world.

Thanks to their wonderful emails, combined with pictures, we are able to share their cruising adventure here. The links to the right open up the letters in that category; click on them to show letters and pictures from the various legs of their voyage. At present, Jane and Sander have completed their sojourn for refitting in Thailand, and are crossing the Indian Ocean. The adventure will continue from there.

These are all first hand accounts from Jane and Sander ... generally, the only editing has been to remove email addresses, in order to protect them from spam robots roaming the web.

There are also some photos included with many of the messages. For those, there are "thumbnails" attached at the bottom of the page; click those and the photos will expand. However the photo album shows many more photos, and in higher resolution -- follow along by clicking the photo album menu item to the right. In the gallery, there are nested sub-albums under the albums ... in many cases albums are nested three levels deep ... be sure to visit them all!!

New: Starting in the Atolls of Micronesia, many of the albums in the gallery have short (a minute or two) movies included. You need to have Apple's Quicktime viewer to view these movies, and you almost certainly need a high speed connection, as most of them are in the 6 - 10 megabyte size range.

Enjoy the adventure!!
