AYC Skippers, Crew and Friends:
We hope that all are well. The AYC Sail Committee and Board of Directors have been meeting regularly to plan and prepare for our 2020 racing/sailing season. We have been monitoring Governor Pritzker's "Shelter-In-Place" orders to best determine how to proceed with our racing program. The safety and health of our fleet and crew is our top priority. As such, the AYC Sail Committee with approval from our Board of Directors have made the decision to postpone the AYC Racing Program until further notice. Governor Pritzker's current order is set to expire on May 30. At that time, we are expecting new guidance for the State and will adjust our racing program schedule accordingly.
Although the current order allows boating as a recreational activity, there are only two persons per boat allowed (unless there are multiple family members that live in the same house). We discussed the possibility of scheduling single-handed and double-handed races. However, yacht clubs have not been designated as an "Essential Business" and should not be operating under the current State order. There would be significant risk if we were to proceed with racing, due to liability concerns not being covered by our insurance policy if AYC operates "illegally" during the Governor's current order.
And so here we are. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and determine when it will be possible to announce the start of our 2020 AYC Racing Program.
Thank you for your ongoing support and understanding during this time.
